Due to my cultural displacement, I tend to speak from an in-between position, allowing myself to meander through similarities and differences between two cultures. I view my own immersion, integration and growth in the American culture as interwoven. This piece is woven with saaris and newspapers in both English and Bangla, my native language. Both newspapers speak of contemporary issues in local and global levels, though the one in Bangla focuses more on immigrants, published by the Bangladeshi community in New York. The used saaris, already embedded with histories of their owners, have been donated by the Bangladeshi and the Indian women living in Georgia. The notion of home, to me, is a sum of complex ongoing experiences and memories from two cultures that have become intertwined as my latest pieces represent.
